Spring and Fall Marriage Retreats
We actually hate to call them “retreats” as we are fighting for our marriages. However, we do get away from the world for a couple of days to review lessons learned during the Love and Respect Workshop as well as subsequent studies like Love and War. The weekend begins with Friday night dessert followed by an evening session. We then hold another session Saturday morning, provide lunch wherever we hold the event, and then send you out for date night in the local area. The next morning we hold one last session and then head home Sunday afternoon. The weekend gives you a chance to not only review lessons learned but learn new information to strengthen your marriage.
This Spring we will be at Lake Catherine State Park in Arkansas 30 minutes from Hot Springs. The park offers amazing, fully furnished cabins with hiking trails, waterfalls, and canoeing/kayaking. Many of the cabins have fireplaces. This is one of our favorite places and we know you will enjoy your time here. In addition to the park, Hot Springs is only 30 minutes away with great restaurants, fun shows and a booming nightlife for you and your spouse to enjoy on date night.
These retreats are for participants of the Love and Respect Workshop or the subsequent study.
Dates: March 31 – April 2, 2017
Time: The first session is at 7:00 PM on Friday and the last session ends at 11:00 AM Sunday.
Cost: $350 covers cabins and meals (except date night).
How far is it from Tyler to the Park?
It takes between 4 and 5 hours to get to the park so you might want to take a Friday off.
What are the options for date night?
We will provide information prior to the retreat but there are a number of activities in Hot Springs to choose from. These range from dinner and dancing to a fun magic show downtown. Of course, you can always hang a sock on your doorknob and just spend the evening in front of a fire (bear rug not included).
What do we need to bring?
Bring clothes appropriate for the weather as it will be cool and possibly damp. Also, be prepared for the outdoors if you plan on taking any of the hiking trails. We recommend a rain-jacket, boots and clothing that can be layered. This time of the year the temperature ranges from the mid 60’s in the daytime to the low 40’s at night. The cabins are well stocked with fully furnished kitchens, bedding, towels and linens. We will be providing breakfast and lunch Saturday and Sunday as well as snacks throughout the weekend but if you have a favorite addictive drink or snack you may want to pack a stash of them.
Do I have to go to the Love and Respect Workshop or the class that follows to attend a retreat?
Yes, and we prefer you attend both. However, you must attend one or the other to attend the retreat. Participants from previous classes may also attend even if they have attended a retreat before.
Where can I get more information?
Bubba and Kimmy Watkins coordinate our retreats. Kimmy can be reached at (903) 570-2591.
Are scholarships available?
Yes, partial scholarships are available. Talk to any of the Marriage Ministry Leaders if you need assistance.
