WORSHIP PASTOR OPENING

Position Summary

Colonial Hills Baptist Church is seeking a Worship Pastor to provide pastoral, spiritual, musical, and organizational leadership for the church's worship ministry.

This is a unique opportunity to help lead Colonial Hills into a new season as the church moves from two distinct Sunday worship services toward one blended worship service - one church with one voice and one mission.

The Worship Pastor will oversee the choir, worship band, tech and production ministries, while serving as an active member of the pastoral staff and contributing to the broader shepherding and ministry of Colonial Hills.

We are looking for a pastor and worship leader who can honor the church's history, embrace its future, unify generations, develop people, and lead worship from a deep understanding of the finished work of Jesus Christ and the believer's life in Christ.

Primary Responsibilities

Spiritual & Pastoral Leadership: 

• Model the biblical character expected of a pastor and ministry leader. 

• Lead from a vibrant, growing relationship with Jesus Christ. 

• Demonstrate a deep understanding of grace, the finished work of Christ, and Christ as our Life. 

• Shepherd worship ministry staff and volunteers through encouragement, discipleship, prayer, and pastoral care. 

• Foster a culture of grace, humility, authenticity, prayer, and dependence upon the Holy Spirit. 

• Participate as an active member of the pastoral staff and contribute to the broader ministry and mission of Colonial Hills. 

• Support and participate in pastoral responsibilities including church-wide events, baptisms, weddings, funerals, member care, discipleship, and other responsibilities as appropriate.

Worship Leadership: 

• Provide overall vision and leadership for Colonial Hills' worship ministry. 

• Plan and lead a unified, blended worship service that is Christ-centered, biblically grounded, authentic, and accessible across generations. 

• Develop a worship philosophy rooted in Scripture, grace, the finished work of Christ, and the reality that Christ is our Life. 

• Select songs and musical elements that communicate theological truth and serve the congregation. 

• Collaborate closely with the Senior Pastor on sermon themes, worship planning, and service flow. 

• Lead worship vocally and instrumentally with musical excellence. 

• Help the congregation grow in understanding that worship is an overflow of knowing and loving Jesus, not simply a musical or emotional experience.

Choir, Band & Production Leadership: 

• Provide overall leadership and oversight for the choir, worship band, vocalists, musicians, and production teams. 

• Recruit, equip, schedule, develop, and shepherd volunteers. 

• Lead effective rehearsals and establish healthy preparation and communication systems. • Integrate choir, band, vocalists, musicians, and production into one cohesive worship ministry. 

• Oversee audio, video, lighting, presentation, livestream, and other production elements. 

• Develop and empower emerging worship and production leaders. 

• Foster a culture of excellence without allowing excellence to overshadow the ministry's pastoral purpose.

Qualifications

Spiritual & Theological Qualifications: 

• Demonstrates biblical character consistent with church leadership. 

• Clearly called to pastoral and worship ministry. 

• Growing relationship with Jesus Christ. 

• Strong commitment to Scripture. 

• Strong theological alignment with Colonial Hills' emphasis on Life in Christ, grace, identity in Christ, the finished work of Jesus, and dependence upon the Holy Spirit. 

• Understands the Christian life as flowing from Christ's life within the believer rather than performance, striving, or earning God's acceptance. 

• Understands corporate worship as an overflow of knowing and loving Jesus. 

• Demonstrates a heart for discipleship, pastoral care, and developing people.
Leadership Qualifications 

• Proven experience leading worship in a healthy local church. 

• Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and lead volunteer teams. 

• Experience leading both musicians and vocalists. 

• Strong organizational and communication skills. 

• Collaborative leadership style. 

• Ability to lead through influence, humility, and servant leadership. 

• Demonstrated ability to lead through change while maintaining trust and unity. 

• Ability to work effectively as part of a pastoral staff.

Musical & Production Qualifications: 

• Strong vocal ability. 

• Strong instrumental proficiency; guitar and/or piano preferred. 

• Experience directing bands and vocal teams. 

• Experience leading or directing a choir is preferred. 

• Working knowledge of worship technology and production systems. 

• Ability to integrate different musical styles and generations into a cohesive worship expression. 

• Commitment to musical excellence while keeping the focus on congregational participation.

Preferred Experience 

• 7–10+ years of worship ministry leadership experience. 

• Experience serving in a pastoral role or on a pastoral staff. 

• Experience leading a multi-generational congregation. 

• Experience overseeing choir, band, and production ministries. 

• Experience developing worship leaders and ministry pipelines. 

• Experience leading a church through significant ministry or worship changes. 

• Experience collaborating closely with senior pastoral leadership.

This person will be asked to honor what has been, embrace what God is doing now, and help lead Colonial Hills toward what comes next.

It will require pastoral sensitivity, theological clarity, musical excellence, humility, patience, and a genuine love for people. Most importantly, it will require someone who believes that the church belongs to Jesus, and that our preferences must remain secondary to the mission He has given His church.
